Kitchen Exhaust Repair and Maintenance
The deficiencies we find, corrected and documented.
During routine NFPA 96 kitchen exhaust system cleaning, we identify equipment deficiencies that should be corrected to maintain a compliant, safe, and serviceable exhaust system. This is the work that follows.
Most deficiencies are not dramatic. A duct run with no access openings, a rooftop fan with no hinge kit, a cracked fan base, a missing grease tray. Each one is small on its own, and each one either makes the next cleaning incomplete or turns into a finding at the next inspection.
Because our crews are already inside the system on every visit, we find these conditions before someone else does. Each is photographed, described in one sentence, and quoted with the fix stated plainly. Repairs are quoted as a single job price per item, never itemized into parts and labor.
Our reports also separate work we are qualified and able to perform from work that should be completed by a licensed electrician, mechanical contractor, or other client-designated trade. Telling you which is which, rather than quoting everything, is part of the point.
- Access panel installation where a duct run cannot otherwise be reached, panels of matching material with rated gaskets, labeled ACCESS PANEL, DO NOT OBSTRUCT
- Hinge kit installation on rooftop fans, allowing safe access to ductwork and fans during cleaning without damaging electrical conduit
- Exhaust fan repairs: fan bases, belts, mounting hardware, and related components
- Grease containment: grease trays, boxes, and rooftop containment around the fan
- Grease filter replacement and correct-fit sizing for the hood
- Photographed deficiency report separating our scope from other trades
- Return visits to verify affected systems are fully serviceable and compliant once repairs are complete
Access is a compliance item, not an upgrade
NFPA 96 requires access openings along horizontal duct runs at intervals that allow the full system to be inspected and cleaned. A run with no openings cannot be verified by anyone, which means it cannot be documented as clean.
Missing access is one of the most common deficiencies we find and quote. Correcting it is usually straightforward, and it is the difference between a system that can be documented and one that cannot.
Why hinge kits keep coming up
Hinge kits allow safe access to ductwork and fans during cleaning without damaging electrical conduit, and are required for proper NFPA 96 service. Without one, the fan either does not get lifted or gets lifted in a way that risks the conduit. Neither is a good outcome, and both show up in the photographs.
Documented, then verified
Findings are photographed and described in the deficiency report you receive after service, with the recommended correction stated for each item. Once those repairs are complete, we can return to verify the affected systems are fully serviceable and compliant.
That closed loop is the useful part: the finding, the correction, and the verification all sit in one file.
NFPA 96 is the reference, not our opinion
Frequency, access requirements, filter type, measurable cleanliness, and reporting are all set by the standard. We publish what it requires so you can hold any contractor to it, including us.
Most often for
Hotels, Resorts, and Casinos
Multiple kitchens under one roof, narrow overnight windows, and brand or gaming standards that expect documentation on file.
School Districts
Many kitchens, one summer window, per-site reports the district can file, and vendor paperwork that clears procurement on the first pass.
Colleges and Universities
Dining halls, retail outlets, and student unions on one campus, worked as a multi-day project inside semester-break windows.
Grocery and Multi-Site Retail
Consistent execution across every store, with consolidated reporting that a compliance program can actually be run from.
